Czech head coach Miroslav Prerost collapsed around noon on Monday and was taken to hospital. Fortunately, his situation has improved.

The Czech Republic’s tournament ended with a quarter-final loss against neighbouring Slovakia, but there was criticism in the aftermath. Much of it was targeted at Prerost, who resigned after these World Juniors

According to some accounts, the criticism culminated in a controversial article by the father of Pavel Zacha, a Czech player who is a potential first-round NHL draft pick. Criticism that the Czech Ice Hockey Association’s President Tomas Kral condemned as unacceptable and disgusting.

Prerost reportedly was planning to give a statement in the team hotel on Monday when he collapsed. Team doctor Jaroslav Budin was thankfully on-site to provide first aid before the ambulance came.

According to the Czech national junior team’s general manager, Petr Komers, Prerost felt better in the evening and will be able to return to the hotel today.
